From June through October, beautifully planted flowerpots will line the sidewalks all around downtown Elkhorn, Wisconsin, brightening the community and welcoming neighbors and visitors alike. The flowers are supplied and planted by Elkhorn High School students, and watering is handled by VIP (formerly Seeds of Hope), a horticultural and recreational community that creates meaningful growth opportunities for adults with developmental and other disabilities.

Few events in Michigan carry that kind of history, and fewer still bring together the sailing community, local waterfront culture, and Great Lakes pride the way this race does every summer.
The 102nd running of the race takes competitors from Port Huron on Lake Huron to Mackinac Island, following a challenging offshore course through the Great Lakes.
The event attracts racing yachts from across North America and is sanctioned within the offshore sailing community, including ORC-rated competition classes. The race connects two iconic Michigan destinations, Port Huron and Mackinac Island, and serves as a major summer event for boating enthusiasts, spectators, local businesses, and waterfront communities. Every young person deserves someone in their corner. For nearly 40 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County has been making sure more kids have exactly that.
The organization's mission is simple and powerful: to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. By connecting children, known as Littles, with caring adult mentors, known as Bigs, BBBS McHenry County professionally supports and nurtures those relationships over time to help young people build confidence, improve their outcomes, and step into their future with real support behind them. The organization describes itself as "Defenders of Potential," and that is exactly what every mentor, volunteer, and donor helps make possible.
Swing for Kids' Sake is their signature annual golf fundraiser, and it is one of the most fun and meaningful ways to spend a summer Monday in the McHenry County area. Sunshine and Shenanigans is a first-year miniature golf outing benefiting Senior Care Volunteer Network, the McHenry County nonprofit that has quietly and consistently shown up for older adults since 1998. SCVN connects community volunteers with seniors age 60 and older who need a little extra support to stay safe, connected, and independent in their own homes. Their services include transportation to medical appointments, friendly visits, shopping assistance, minor home repairs, yard work, and more, all provided at no charge to the senior. For many older adults in McHenry County and Sun City Huntley, SCVN is the difference between staying home and feeling isolated.
Sunshine and Shenanigans is a lively, accessible, family-friendly evening created to bring people together for lighthearted competition, connection, and purpose. The event features an 18-hole mini golf outing at Lippold Park Family Golf Center, with registration beginning at 5:00 p.m. and a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. Whether you come with family, friends, or your work crew, this is an evening worth showing up for.
