- The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) offers down payment assistance of up to $10,000 for eligible homebuyers, or up to $25,000 for qualified first-generation homebuyers, subject to program availability. First-generation eligibility requires that the borrower has not owned a home in the past three years and that the borrower’s parent(s) have not owned a home in the past three years, or the borrower meets other qualifying criteria as defined by MSHDA. Assistance is typically provided as a deferred loan with no monthly payments and may be repayable upon sale, refinance, or transfer of the property. Programs are subject to income limits, purchase price limits, credit requirements, and property eligibility. Homebuyer education may be required. Funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis and may be exhausted without notice. Borrowers must qualify for an MSHDA-approved mortgage loan. This is not a commitment to lend. Additional terms and conditions apply. Please contact your loan officer for full program guidelines.
