Valentine’s Day on a budget

02/2023

Tips for enjoying a day you -and your wallet-will love

Love your significant other but hate the thought of spending a large amount of money this Valentine’s Day? We get it.

According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), over half the country chooses to partake in Valentine’s Day, with the average person spending nearly $200. In 2022, $23.9 billion was spent on Valentine’s Day. This year, the NRF predicts a total of $26 billion will be spent.

That’s a lot of money, and we understand wanting to take a step back and save. If you’re asking yourself if it’s possible to have an affordable Valentine’s Day and still have a great day, the answer is YES!

Read on for some ideas on ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank:

  • Have a date night in: It can be expensive to go out to eat and partake in different events. Have you considered staying in this Valentine’s Day and keeping it cozy? Whether you order pizza, cook together, play board games, etc., you’re sure to have a good time and save money if you opt to stay in this Valentine’s Day.
  • Look for coupons and deals: If you do decide to go out to dinner, consider looking on coupon sites such as Groupon for special Valentine’s Day deals. In addition, you can look at local advertising to see if any local businesses have anything special going on.
  • Discus budget with your significant other: There’s nothing wrong with talking about a budget with your partner. In fact, discussing spending limits can save a lot of stress down the road.
  • Save on flowers! Instead of buying higher marked flowers, consider buying some flowers at Costco, Walmart, or Aldi. You might even be able to find some flowers at the dollar store.
  • Keep it simple: Having a fun time with your significant other does not have to be expensive. We recommend keeping things simple. Maybe go for a walk and talk, pull out the board games, or go out and look at the stars. Things don’t have to be elaborate to be enjoyable.

No matter what you decide to do this Valentine’s Day, we hope you have a great day!
