Credit Card Balance Transfer FAQs: Your Questions Answered

A credit card balance transfer allows you to move an existing balance from another financial institution to your Advia Visa® Credit Card so you can take advantage of a lower promotional rate. At Advia, the process is simple! Once you provide the required account details for the balance you want to move, the amount you choose to transfer is added to your Advia Visa® account under the applicable promotional terms.

Yes, you would need to be approved for an Advia credit card to complete a balance transfer. You can transfer balances from another financial institution’s credit card, store card, retail card, or other qualifying loan. You cannot transfer balances to other Advia credit cards, loans, lines of credit, or mortgages.

New Advia Visa® cardholders receive a low introductory APR on balance transfers, and the length of that promotional period depends on the credit card you're transferring to. With the Visa® Platinum Variable Rate Credit Card, balance transfers completed within the first three months after opening the account qualify for a special introductory APR that lasts for 12 billing cycles, beginning on the date the first transfer posts. For the Visa® Platinum Advantage Points Credit Card, eligible balance transfers made during the first three months receive the promotional APR for 6 billing cycles, also starting from the date of the first completed transfer. After the promotional window ends, the card’s standard variable APR applies to any remaining balance.

Yes. Each balance transfer processed to an Advia Visa® Credit Card includes a transfer fee of $10 or 3% of the amount transferred (whichever is greater). This fee is added to your Advia Visa® account at the time the transfer posts. Late payments or account issues may also impact your eligibility for promotional intro rates.

To transfer a balance to your Advia Visa® Credit Card, you'll need the other financial institution’s name, address, account number (for credit cards, this is typically the full 16‑digit card number), and the amount you want to transfer. Simply log in to Digital Banking, then click 'My Cards' and 'Balance Transfer' to get started.

Yes! You can transfer balances from another bank or credit union's credit card, or a store card, retail card, or other qualifying loan. You cannot transfer balances to other Advia credit cards, loans, lines of credit, or mortgages.

A balance transfer itself doesn’t typically change your credit score right away. However, your score can shift based on how the transfer affects things like your total balances, your payment history, and your overall credit usage. If you’re opening a new Advia credit card to complete the transfer, a credit check will be required and that inquiry may cause a small, temporary dip in your score.

If your payment isn’t made by the due date, a late fee is added to your account the following day. Your statement is generated on the 1st of each month, and your payment is due on the 26th, giving you a 25‑day window to make your payment. Staying on time is especially important during the promotional period, as late payments can cause you to lose your introductory APR offer.

There is a $10 minimum. The maximum is based on your card's credit limit. Any fees associated with the balance transfer will count towards your card's credit limit.

Yes! You can bring over balances from several cards or loans and roll them into one balance with your Advia Visa® Credit Card, as long as your available credit limit allows.
